Modern Slavery Statement for House Cleaners

We are committed to ensuring that our domestic cleaning teams and all people engaged as house cleaners work in an environment free from exploitation. This modern slavery statement sets out the steps we take to prevent forced labour, human trafficking and any form of involuntary work across our operations and supply chain. Our commitment applies to direct employees, agency-supplied staff and sub-contracted residential cleaning teams.

Zero-Tolerance Policy

We operate a zero-tolerance policy toward modern slavery and human trafficking. That policy is embedded into recruitment, onboarding and the terms of engagement for every domestic cleaner and housekeeping cleaner we hire. All staff receive information that explains their rights, pay, working hours and the voluntary nature of their employment. We do not accept fee-charging recruitment practices and we require suppliers to show proof that workers are free to leave employment and keep their identity documents.

Inspection of cleaning team records during a supplier auditTo uphold this, our staff handbook and supplier agreements require clear declarations: workers must not be charged for recruitment, must be paid at least the legal minimum wage, and must be able to access grievance mechanisms. We recognise the particular vulnerability of migrant home cleaners and cleaning service workers, and therefore take additional protective measures such as translation of employment terms and verification of legal right to work for those engaged in client homes.

Supplier Audits and Due Diligence

We conduct regular supplier audits and due diligence to assess risks across our supply chain. Our supplier audit programme includes:

  • Risk assessment of agency partners and subcontractors providing residential cleaning staff;
  • On-site audits that verify working conditions, contracts and payroll records;
  • Remediation plans for any non-compliance identified, including timescales and verification steps.

Confidential reporting and support services for domestic cleanersAudit findings are reported to senior management and inform our supplier selection process. We prioritise long-term partnerships with suppliers who demonstrate strong labour practices and the capacity to implement corrective actions. Where necessary, we terminate relationships with companies that fail to improve after a reasonable remediation period.

We maintain multiple reporting channels so that domestic cleaners, housekeeping staff and the public can raise concerns safely and confidentially. These reporting channels include anonymous whistleblowing hotlines, secure online forms and an internal escalation route that reaches senior compliance officers. We guarantee that reports will be treated seriously, investigated promptly and that whistleblowers will be protected from retaliation.

Training session for residential cleaning staff on workers' rightsOur case management procedures ensure that allegations of exploitation are documented, investigated and, where substantiated, referred to appropriate authorities. We provide support to affected workers, which may include temporary relocation, access to legal advice and coordination with local services to ensure their safety and rights are respected.

Annual review meeting on modern slavery prevention and complianceTraining and awareness are central to prevention. All cleaning supervisors and recruitment staff undergo regular training on identifying signs of modern slavery, conducting ethical recruitment, and supporting vulnerable workers. We also provide information sessions for home cleaners and residential cleaning staff to help them recognise and report abuse.

We measure effectiveness through a set of key performance indicators including audit completion rates, number of substantiated incidents, remediation success and training completion percentages. These metrics guide continuous improvement of our policies affecting domestic cleaners and other cleaning personnel.

Our governance framework assigns responsibility for this statement to senior management and the compliance committee. The committee reviews supplier audit results, incident reports and remediation outcomes, and makes policy recommendations to strengthen protections for cleaning service workers and housekeeping cleaners.

Annual Review and Continuous Improvement — This statement is reviewed at least once a year, and more frequently if circumstances require. The annual review evaluates the effectiveness of our zero-tolerance policy, supplier audits, reporting channels and training programmes. It includes stakeholder consultation, updated risk assessments and a summary of actions taken in the previous year to prevent modern slavery among home cleaners, domestic cleaners and other staff engaged in residential cleaning.
